ART:HK Western dealers sense Asia’s strong market

Last weekend Art HK blasted a huge opening with many gallery names that you normally see in Art Basel, like Pace, Gagosian, Bruno Bishofberger, Marianne Boesky, Leo Castelli, Gladstone, Yvon Lambert, Lelong and Sperone Westwater among many Asian galleries. The fact that Art Basel has bought into the fair brings a big boost and gives an indication of the strength of the art market in Hong Kong. Even Gagosian has recently opened up a gallery space in HK. Many were surprised of the quality of the fair and the large attendance. Over 50,000 visitors are expected. The art work had a spectrum from USA, Europe to Asia in a mixed fashion so the collectors and visitors got a good education of western art together with its own from mainly China, Korea and Japan. You could sense a bullish sentiment among the dealers on Asia and China in particular.
Two separate sections that were on the upper floor, Art futures and Asia One, represent a further expansion of Art HK 11 by showcasing more local Asian art, decidedly on the emerging side. The former consists of 45 galleries and the latter 47, adding 92 booths to the 168 mainstream stands on the main floor.
Below photo was sold for Euro 500,000.
